Located on the southern fringe of Jim Corbett National Park, Jhirna Zone offers a rich blend of wilderness, scenic beauty, and thrilling wildlife encounters. Known for its year-round accessibility, Jhirna is one of the few zones where safaris are operational even during monsoon months. The landscape here is dominated by dense shrubs, dry river beds, and open grasslands that create perfect visibility for wildlife sightings. Home to sloth bears, elephants, deer species, and even the elusive tiger, Jhirna is a must-visit for safari lovers. With its tranquil atmosphere and moderate safari traffic, it’s an ideal spot for both first-time visitors and experienced wildlife enthusiasts.

About Jhirna Zone

Jhirna Zone is a highly recommended part of Jim Corbett for those seeking year-round safari options. Unlike other core zones that remain closed during monsoons, Jhirna remains open throughout the year, making it a preferred destination during off-season periods as well. The zone features a dry deciduous forest landscape interspersed with open grasslands, ideal for sighting herbivores like spotted deer, sambhar, nilgai, and wild boar. Bird watchers also find Jhirna rewarding with species like Indian rollers, crested serpent eagles, hornbills, and woodpeckers frequently seen.

The zone is also home to a significant number of sloth bears, elephants, and occasionally tigers. Safaris in this zone are conducted twice a day — in the morning and evening — and both offer excellent chances to witness wildlife in their natural setting. The entry point to Jhirna is Dhela Gate, located about 20 km from Ramnagar. Limited safari permits are issued per shift, so it’s recommended to book in advance, especially during weekends and holiday seasons.

Booking Formalities

To book a safari in the Jhirna Zone, you must provide a valid government ID such as Aadhar Card, Passport, or Driving License. Each ID must match the name submitted during the booking process. Safari bookings are non-transferable, and changes in visitor names are not allowed after confirmation. You must book your permit online in advance due to limited availability. The entry fee includes forest charges, guide fee, gypsy rent, and road tax. Foreign nationals are required to submit passport details and pay higher permit charges. On the day of safari, carry both the ID used during booking and a printed or digital confirmation of the permit.
